I choose to fire my work with wood. For me, there is a strong connection between the making of the work and the surfaces I can create with the flames and ash as they rush in and around the pots. My work, while inspired by the long wood fired tradition of the Carolinas, pays homage to my own lineage of local decorated production pottery. Paying attention to how the clays and slips react to the flame and atmosphere in the kiln, I endeavor to create a multilayered surface that reveals itself slowly and rewards patient contemplation.
